Problem
“Mark Carney (ex-Bank of England governor) says the money in UK retirement pots could be a powerful force against climate change.
Carney has previously warned pensions funds and other businesses risk seeing assets become ‘worthless’ unless they wake up to the climate crisis.
New research from Make My Money Matter shows 57 per cent of UK adults with a pension want to see their savings invested in building a better future for people and the planet after the coronavirus pandemic, and 52 per cent want them used to help tackle climate change.”

Redirecting our savings is one of the biggest contributions we can make to reducing our carbon footprint and building the green economy we want.
I joined this project as a UX designer after the initial scoping and research phase. My task is/was to develop a prototype based on the identified “jobs to be done”; amend the prototype based on feedback and insights from potential users and finance experts; and work with a full stack developer to ship an MVP.
Concept
A tool to help people discover how green their current pension is and how to make their pension greener.
Goals
User flow is front and centre
User quickly understands if they are eligible to use the tool
User quickly identifies their current pension; knows its green credentials and rating; and is given all the options available to make their pension greener
Recommendations are seen as trustworthy and informed
User is able to easily contact members of the Go Invest Team
Tool meets accessibility criteria
Tool can be viewed on mobile, tablet or desktop and “looks good” on all three devices
Brand
Friendly, approachable, trustworthy, knowledgeable, eco-aware and balanced
Wants to avoid the corporate feel of a conventional bank, and instead be more playful and fun
Wireframes
Based on the “jobs to be done”, we created very simple wireframes to illustrate the three step process:
Early Prototype
Several iterations later resulted in an early stage prototype to guide user through the three step process; collect email addresses from users to keep them informed of any updates to their pension and relevant information to help them “go greener"; and to guide them into the planned go invest green community on social media channels.
This prototype is the result of a co-creation process with potential users, and desk-based research. (Latest version)
Amendments
This is a video of my response (with permission) to a request for amendments to Go Invest Green from someone who does not have a background in design or app/website development.
Some of these changes are also outlined in the images below.
Currently, I am waiting for the final changes for Go Invest Green and to receive confirmation on legal approval for the final amendments. For now, my work on this project is on hold.
